Traveling with Jewlery

Are you traveling for the holidays? Here are some tips about traveling with jewelry.

It is important to assess what kind of trip you are taking and how much jewelry you should take.

Do you really need to take a lot of expensive jewelry? Do you need to change your jewelry according to your outfit? Our advice is to take as little as possible. Unless you are going away to a very dressy affair and need your “good” jewelry, it is best to leave it at home in a safe or your bank vault. If you are going to a resort in the Caribbean, or touring in a foreign country, you do not need to wear all of your best diamond jewelry. It will attract attention, and it could be the wrong kind of attention. Thieves are always on the lookout for people to “hit” on and you could be a prime target. If you always wear your engagement ring or diamond wedding band, make sure it is insured. Avoid showy necklaces, bracelets and earrings. Keep it simple.

What is a Semi Mount?

There are several ways of purchasing an engagement ring. You can buy a ring that is complete with diamonds and ready to wear –
or you can purchase your setting and your stone separately.

The setting is called a semi mount. It can be a plain band that the diamond is mounted on or it can be an elaborate concoction of side stones or stones encircling the center stone.
Diamonds come in an infinite variety of cuts, sizes, colors and clarity. Every diamond is graded on these qualities. Many people prefer to pick out their own diamond so that they get the exact stone they want. Of course prices vary greatly according to these qualities.

At Gold Fire Diamonds we specialize in helping you to find your special ring. We can help you choose a mounting and a stone to go in it. We then put it all together for you into a spectacular ring.

Kim Kardashian Reveals What’s on her Push Present Wish List – a $1M Diamond Choker

Reasoning that it only makes sense that “we get something amazing to show how amazing we are,” Kim Kardashian reveals in a recent blog post that she’s finally on board with the idea of “push presents” — the gifts mothers get from their partners after giving birth. And her ideal gift? A $1 million diamond choker.

Even though Kardashian received an impressive collection of gold bracelets as gifts from hubby Kanye West for her first pregnancy, she led off her blog post with this question, “Do you guys believe in a push present? I never did, but all of my friends do!!!”

Now, it seems the reality star has a new point of view.

Derek Jeter Knocks it out of the Park with Classic Engagement Ring for Model Girlfriend Hannah Davis

It’s certainly fitting that Derek Jeter, one of the classiest athletes of his generation, would bestow a “classic” engagement ring on his model girlfriend Hannah Davis. With a center diamond believed to be between 4 and 6 carats in weight, the dazzling ring is estimated to be worth as much as $300,000.

The platinum ring features a round center diamond set in a simple band adorned with smaller pavé diamonds. Jewelry-industry insiders have called the ring “timeless,” “elegant,” “traditional” and, of course, “gorgeous.”

“Jeter knocked it out of the park on this ring,” Mark Keeney, VP of Marketing at Ritani, told

The notoriously private, 41-year-old former shortstop of the New York Yankees rarely talks about his personal life, but early last week, news of his engagement to the statuesque, 5′ 10″ Sports Illustrated supermodel could be kept under wraps no longer.

Lily Aldridge will be modeling the 2015 Fireworks Fantasy Bra during the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show, airing on CBS on December 8. Last year’s installment, featuring musical guest Taylor Swift, attracted 9.1 million viewers. Stepping into Swift’s shoes this year will be Ellie Goulding.

Hand-Carved Pumpkin Does the Talkin’ for this Newly Engaged Couple at ‘The Great Jack O’Lantern Blaze’

Each year, more than 7,000 hand-carved pumpkins illuminate the grounds of a Croton-on-Hudson, N.Y., manor as part of a spectacle called “The Great Jack O’Lantern Blaze.” Attendees from hundreds of miles around gather on dark autumn nights to marvel at the elaborate displays of jack–o’–lanterns carved for the event by local artists.

Two Saturdays ago, Jonathan Ehrlich and girlfriend, Jenna Bonvino, were at the end of a one-hour loop around the impressive exhibition when Bonvino spotted a huge floral cake made entirely out of pumpkins. Prominently displayed was a single pumpkin carved with the phrase, “Jenna Will You Marry Me?”

At first, Bonvino, 28, wasn’t sure if the message was for her. But then Ehrlich, 32, dropped to one knee and asked her to marry him. “I was shaking like crazy,” she told “It didn’t feel real.”
“All I heard was people saying, ‘Is that Jenna? Is that Jenna?’” Bonvino recalled. “I kept yelling, “I’m Jenna! I’m Jenna!” and “I said, ‘Yes!’”

8.48-Carat Ruby Ring Gifted to Italy’s Last Queen Expected to Challenge Auction Record at Sotheby’s Geneva

An exceptional ruby-and-diamond ring once owned by Marie José — the last Queen of Italy — is expected to challenge the price-per-carat record for a ruby when it goes under the hammer at Sotheby’s Geneva on November 11.

The Burmese ruby, weighing 8.48 carats, carries a pre-sale high estimate of $9 million ($1.06 million per carat). If the ring ends up selling for $10.17 million or more, it will eclipse the astonishing record set by the Sunrise Ruby this past May.

That ruby weighed 25.59 carats and fetched $30.3 million ($1.18 million per carat). It was the first non-diamond to sell for more than $1 million per carat and tripled the record for the highest price ever paid at auction for a ruby.
